As 2015 ends the Foundation looks back on another year. The Foundation honored nine families at the annual ceremony in September. While the Foundation is excited to expand our family support programs to include a partnership with Camp Faces, we are saddened to see the loss of several firefighters in the line of duty including two from the wildland service in 2015.
It has also been a tragic year for people closely related to the fire service. Student Adam Brunt died training to become a firefighter and student Campbell Smith died in an incident unrelated to the fire service while studying to become a firefighter. The Foundation expresses its sincere condolences to these families and the families of all those who died in the line of duty in 2015.
The 2016 ceremony will take place on the 15th anniversary of 9/11 on September 11, 2016 at the site of the Canadian Firefighters Memorial. This year’s honorary host will be the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management for the Province of Ontario as they celebrate 100 years in existence.
On behalf of the Foundation we wish all our supporters and families a peaceful holiday season and hope all will stay safe.
