2021 CFFF Memorial Weekend - Cancellation

The circumstances of the current worldwide pandemic have, once again, caused the Board of Directors of the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation (CFFF) to have to consider the viability of our Annual Memorial Weekend.

Last year, when we had the sad responsibility to announce the cancellation of our Memorial Weekend, I don’t think any one of us envisioned that we would once again be faced with that critical decision, but situation and circumstances bring us to that point.

It is with a profound sense of sadness that we now advise that this year’s Memorial Weekend is similarly cancelled.

The Board of Directors continue to feel it is our duty to protect the health and safety of our families and colleagues while upholding our mission to Remember, Honour and Support our fallen.

Because of this our plans will change, from an in-person gathering at the Canadian Firefighters Memorial in Ottawa, to an online ceremony which will be broadcast through our Facebook page. Details on the 2021 virtual Memorial ceremony will be available closer to the date at www.cfff.ca.

Flags, as always, will fly at half-mast on September 12, which is Firefighters’ National Memorial Day, when all firefighters across Canada are recognized for their sacrifice, dedication, and bravery, particularly the fallen.

We remain hopeful that our in-person congregation for the Canadian Firefighters Annual Memorial Ceremony will resume in 2022, on the September 10-11 weekend, with the families from 2020, 2021 and 2022 taking part.

We thank everyone for your continued remembrance and honouring of the fallen along with your unwavering support of the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
