Karen Suidan, a teacher with the Dolphin Senior Public School in Mississauga, was travelling to Ottawa with the school band for the national music festival called MusicFest Canada. Karen is the daughter of Captain William Terrell (Toronto Fire Services) who was added to the CFFF memorial wall during the 2017 ceremony. Karen contacted the CFFF to arrange for her students to visit the memorial on May 16th. Her plan was to have the students find her fathers name, and perform the Last Post followed with a moment of silence in honour of all fallen fire fighters.
Karen’s request was sent to CFFF ceremony director, John Sobey who contacted Karen and arranged to meet with her and students. Director Sobey who is also a member of Ottawa Fire Services arranged for a pump and ladder crew to attend the event in support of the special occasion. Following the small ceremony, director Sobey explained the background of the memorial site and the history of the CFFF. The Ottawa Fire crews took the time to show the students their apparatus and equipment.
The Foundation wishes to thank Ms. Suidan and the students from Dolphin Senior Public for taking the time to visit and pay their respects to all of Canada’s fallen fire fighters while visiting the nation’s capital.
