As a tribute to the firefighters who risk their lives to keep Canadians safe, the Canadian government proclaimed the second Sunday in September of each year as Firefighters’ National Memorial Day in memory of firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation is reminding all fire service organizations that on Sunday September 9, 2018 all flags should be half-masted at all fire service stations in Canada to coincide with Canadian flags half-masted on all federal buildings and establishments.
The Government of Canada recognizes the dangers firefighters often face when carrying out their duties, and the ultimate sacrifice of firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty. Firefighters’ National Memorial Day commemorates their courage, their selflessness, and their unwavering commitment to serving our communities.
The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation will be conducting the annual memorial ceremony at the site of the Canadian Firefighters Memorial, in Ottawa, at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday September 9. Visit the 2018 Ceremony Details for more info.
