It is with great sadness that SOPFEU announces that one of its forest fire fighters died late yesterday afternoon. He collapsed when fighting a fire in the Parc de Chibougamau sector.
Attempts were made to resuscitate him until the paramedics arrived. He was brought to the hospital in Roberval where he was pronounced dead.
It was Régis Tremblay's thirtieth season working for SOPFEU and the 61-year-old forest fire fighter was based in Roberval.
SOPFEU would like to express its sincere condolences to his family members, friends and colleagues. A psychological support program will be available for his family and co-workers.
The Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) will act according to its procedures.

The funeral service will be held on Monday 25 July, 2016, at 1030 hours, at St-Bruno church, followed by burial in parish cemetery. He is survived by his son Alexandre. He was the brother of: Alain Tremblay (Lucie), Dorys, Bernard, Donald and Édith (Jules). He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces, parents and friends.
