and was an active member of the Walsh Fire Station.
On October 17, 2O17, Firefighter Hargrave was killed in the Line of Duty while evacuating
members of the public as an out of control Wildfire fast approached the stranded and
disorientated residents. As reported by the evacuated residents, the smoke was so thick they
were unable to see 3 feet in front of them and the heat from the fire being pushed by the wind
was unbearable.
Firefighter Hargrave directed the residents down a gravel road that lead them
out of harms way. As reported by another resident, FF Hargrave found him as he was
evacuating the area. He pulled over in the heavy smoke, got out and ran to the vehicle to insure
no one was in the there. FF Hargrave instructed the resident to follow him to safety. During
their evacuation, the were cut off by the fire and had to turn around to find another way out.
As the fire conditions continued to escalate, FF Hargraves vehicle went off the road and rolled
landing on its roof. The resident tried to extract FF Hargrave but was over come by immense
heat and smoke and had to evacuate with out FF Hargrave.
Firefighter Hargrave preformed admirably in his duties to ensure the safety of the residents
during the evacuation.
