Alexander "Luke or Silver" Fleming Lockhart

Story
Alexander Fleming Lockhart was born in Toronto Ontario in 1906 the son of Scottish Immigrants. Alec overcame paralysis when he was just a young boy after an accident. Working with his mother he grew strong and learned to walk again yet the full extent of the paralysis could still be seen in his smile. Alec joined the Toronto Fire Department in 1929. In later years he often recalled carrying a small baby who had passed away in a fire out with his bare hands...he often said the smell never washed away. Less than a year before his death Alexander was preceded by the love of his life his wife Aneta (Jean) Shannon.
On the evening of February 4 1969 Alec and his crew where at a fire on Roselawn Avenue.While attempting to raise a ladder Alec had a massive heart attack and died (He had been a firefighter for 40 years). That evening the department phoned his daughter (Anita Mills) and spoke to her husband Harry R Mills (a Borough of York Fire Captain), and informed him of the death...2 days later Alec was laid to rest beside his wife at Riverside Cemetery in Toronto.
