Richard Scott Bothwell
Captain
Story
R. Scott Bothwell, Retired Fire Captain, passed away on May 29 from a work related illness. Scott proudly served with the Calgary Fire Department from 1978 until 2006. Scott cherished his career and the camaraderie with his fellow firefighters that comes with serving and protecting together.
Scott loved and respected Nature. The call of the sea drew him to Vancouver Island after leaving the CFD. There he pursued his passion for golf, fishing, gardening, hiking, bird watching, observing the amazing wildlife in the sea and on the Island, and learning the art of Bonsai. He was happiest outdoors exploring the beaches and forests with his wife and dog, or getting his hands dirty by creating beautiful garden spaces and rock features on his property. He enjoyed welcoming friends and family who regularly came to visit.
Scott's ultimate joy in life was being a husband for almost 47 years, becoming a devoted father of two sons and then a father-in-law, and finally becoming a grandfather. The gift of his grandson was the best medicine of all during his illness. Scott's family continues to miss him every day. He will always be their hero.
