Story
CAPTAIN ROGER CARNAHAN - Fredericton Fire Department, NB
Captain Roger Carnahan died from a work-related illness on December 20, 2019. He joined the fire service in 1987.
A fearless firefighter, Roger always had a calm demeanor and a smile on his face, never letting the stressful parts of the job show to his fellow crew members. He was often seen with the crossword section rolled up in his back pocket and was always full of random facts. He loved to snack on Pizza Pockets, Skittles and Pixie Stix and he knew the words to every song…. ever!
Roger started as a Firefighter and eventually was promoted to Lieutenant and then to Captain. He also acted in the position of Platoon Captain. He was the recipient of the Fire Services Exemplary Service medal in 1990 with the First Bar awarded in 2017. He was also a recipient of the New Brunswick Fire Service Long Service Medal. He was a member of the FFD Honour Guard and participated in many extra-curricular activities at the Fire Department including, fundraisers, car washes and parades; even traveling to New York City on the first anniversary of 9/11 to participate in the ceremonies there.
Roger, known for his infectious smile, was quite adventurous in his younger days, but settled down once he met the love of his life Brenda. They soon had two sons, Nicholas, and Thomas, who he adored. He loved living life and enjoyed camping trips with his family.
