Captain Brian McKay, Halifax Fire & Emergency Services, NS

Family Memories

Brian joined Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Service as a volunteer in 1995 and became a career fire fighter in 2000. He truly loved serving his community in this role and served with dedication. He especially enjoyed his time serving with the USAR CAN-TF5 Halifax K9 team with his chocolate lab, Abby.

Brian was an avid outdoorsman enjoying interests including hiking, hunting, fishing, boating and SCUBA diving. He enjoyed volunteering with the Eastern Shore Ground Search and Rescue.

He was truly kind by nature and was eager to assist family, friends and neighbours with projects that they were doing. He is especially missed by the widows of the neighbourhood to whom he was ever compassionate and helpful.

Brian’s death was the result of a work-related illness and he is missed by family, friends and colleagues alike.

Sorely missed and forever loved.
