Brian Coffey
Firefighter
Story
Brian Coffey, or “Coff” as he was known to his fellow firefighters was a proud member of Kingston Fire and Rescue for over 24 years retiring in 2000. Coff was a respected firefighter with a quick wit, mischievous grin and generous spirit, he was often first to lend a hand to a fellow firefighter.
Brian was forever an “Islander”, hailing from a large family from Wolfe Island it was where he returned, building a retirement home for he and his wife and best friend of 34 years, Eileen. Brian was a true outdoorsman enjoying time hunting and fishing with a lifelong love of sports, in particular baseball, to which he devoted much time as a player, volunteer and enthusiast. Brian loved to travel, whether it was a vacation with Eileen or a hunting weekend with his friends, he was always ready for an adventure.
However nothing brought the same joy to Brian’s life as his family; loving father to Paul, Jill and Steve and devoted grandfather to Will, Charlotte, Mack, Ava and Ben. Brian shared stories of his family and the pride and love that he had for each member of his family was always evident.
Following his retirement Brian faced an occupational disease diagnosis as he did all things in life, with a quiet and certain intent to overcome. Brian lived many happy years between his diagnosis and his death in 2019 and the memories of joy and love carry his family and friends forward.
