Story

Captain John Andrew McCabe died from a work-related illness on September 6, 2021. He joined the Coquitlam Fire Department in August 1978

Family Memories

John McCabe joined the Coquitlam Fire Department in August 1978 and was very proud of his 30 years of dedicated service, retiring as Captain and Honour Guard member in May of 2008.

Never one to sit still John spent his retirement years teaching Swiftwater Rescue in northern BC to indigenous people.

He was always quick to generously volunteer his time to family and friends.

Passionate about sports, he played on several softball and hockey teams through the years. In addition, he loved fishing and spending countless hours on his boat.

John was loved and cherished by his wife Karen, his family and all who knew him.

We will forever cherish the memories of his kind and generous personality.
