Story

Lionel Gauthier was a proud member of the La Broquerie Fire Department for 26 years, having served as Fire Chief and the Eastman Mutual Aid District Coordinator for 10 years.  Lionel was dedicated to the community he served and made a positive and lasting impact on many in the fire service.  Following his retirement from the fire department, he was integral in establishing an emergency measures plan as the municipality’s first Emergency Coordinator.

As a lifelong resident of La Broquerie, Lionel built many lasting relationships within the community and spent many years volunteering his time for various causes, such as local sports, his catholic parish and the Knights of Columbus.  He was always quick to lend a hand.

In 2019, Lionel was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.  His calm and positive demeanor brought hope and optimism to his loved ones.  Unfortunately, following two years of remission his cancer came back aggressively and took Lionel away from us.  He is deeply missed by his wife Gisele, sons Patrick (Angie), Yvan (Kelly), and Stephane (Roxanne), grandsons Christian, Luc, Justin, Kurtis and Emmett, brothers Marcel (Jaqueline) and Paul (Joelle) and sister Mona (Gilbert), countless nieces and nephews, and many friends and former colleagues.
