FIRE CHIEF DOUGLAS GARDINER

Family Memories;
Doug Gardiner was a proud member of the Saanich Fire Department for 27 years, retiring as the Assistant Chief Training Officer. He later took the position of Fire Chief at North Westside Fire Rescue in the Regional District of the Central Okanagan and then finished his career as the Fire Service Coordinator for the Regional District of Nanaimo, a total of 34 years in the fire service.
Doug prided himself on having a good work ethic and never did anything half way. He was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He was also a craftsman, building his own 36ft steel sail boat, he could build or fix almost anything, always quick with a joke or a story or a helping hand.
Doug was also a well loved family man, married for 46 years to the love of his life, with two great kids and seven grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and trusted friend, we will miss him every day but we will always be grateful to have had him in our lives. The loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind.
