Story

FIREFIGHTER CHARLES POLLOCK

St. Catharines Fire Department, ON

Charles Pollock died from a work-related illness on January 27, 1997. He joined the fire service in November 1956 continuing to his retirement in March 1994.

Chuck, aka Cuddles at the firehall, was Union Treasure for many years. Remaining humble and modest, he preferred camaraderie with fellow firefighters rather than taking a promotion, a title or an advancement. Chuck fought for better conditions for all and brought lots of laughter to the firefighter baseball team.

His family was his pride and joy. Chuck was hardworking and at times held multiple jobs to provide for his family of eight. He enjoyed supporting his children’s many activities, taught them the value of hard work and the importance of enjoying life.  His spare time was spent gardening, woodworking, golfing, curling, traveling (golf get-away’s, family trips to Kentucky) and cheering on his Leafs.

Chuck loved volunteering in his community. For many years, he was a driver for special needs children. He coached his daughter’s hockey team, and softball teams at many levels, passing on skills and life lessons, such as co-operation and sportsmanship. Chuck is still remembered by others as they retell a fun story, share a skill they learned or how they enjoyed being on his team.  He put others first, believed in them and gave them the confidence to believe in themselves.

Charles Pollock will be remembered as a Husband, Father, Grandpa, Friend to so many and most of all, Our HERO, forever.
