Douglas R Carter
Assistant Fire Chief
Story
Douglas Carter
Doug was born in Calgary but grew up in North Burnaby BC where he married and raised three children. After graduating from UBC Doug began a career with the City of Burnaby, joining the Burnaby Fire Department on June 18,1963 where he proudly served for the next 36 years. In 1996 after being promoted through the ranks he was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief.
He retired on March 31,1999. He had a strong work ethic and was well respected by his fellow firefighters as well as throughout the community. In retirement he was able to spend more time with family as well as follow his passion for travel until in late 2011, Doug became ill with kidney cancer, the cause of which was determined to be job related. He was a kind honourable man, a dedicated husband and father who cared deeply about those in his family and his community of firefighters.
He was very proud to be a Canadian firefighter with the Burnaby Fire Department and therefore able to serve the community and country that he had grown up in.
