Ken J Kinney
Sr. Captain
Story
Ken was with the Burnaby Fire Department for 29 years and was actively working when he was diagnosed with work related cancer. He battled cancer with the utmost resilience and bravery, he fought until the very end with both his family and fire family by his side.
If you worked with Ken, he likely addressed you by a nickname that you may or may not have known about. When he wasn’t working, he loved to spend time playing hockey, golfing, working in the yard, vacations in Hawaii, and making memories with his friends and family.
Ken left behind his wife of 29 years Debbie and their three daughters Nicole, Kirsten, and Kaitlyn along with his second family the Burnaby Fire Department. Not only was Ken a Senior Captain with the Burnaby Fire Department but also a sheet metal journeyman. He was a decorated hockey player with a competitive spirit, a passionate leader, and had a work ethic that was second to none.
His contagious laugh and offside jokes are greatly missed, and his family’s lives haven’t been the same without him. We are so grateful for the time we got to spend with Ken and continue living each day hoping to make him proud.
