Story

Ken was a career-long firefighter, joining Oshawa Fire Services in 1987 at the age of twenty[1]two. At the time of his passing, he had achieved the level of Platoon Chief of Suppression and had been awarded the Exemplary Services medal and Service Bar.

Ken’s natural inclination towards service and help, ensured that he embodied the quintessential firefighter. Throughout his career, Ken demonstrated his commitment to his role as first responder by providing help and protection to the public in emergency situations.

Ken continually prioritized the needs of his fellow firefighters and proved this by the support and care he provided to fellow sufferers of PTSD. Ken enjoyed being in nature and engaged in daily walks in all seasons with his beloved wife; they could also be seen cycling together in more temperate weather. Ken also loved his motorcycle and undertook several tours, including to his beloved Blue Ridge Parkway in the United States. He and his wife very much enjoyed traveling. He was adept at all aspects of construction and mechanics and enjoyed performing these tasks as well as mentoring others to do so.

Tragically, the career that gave so much to his life, ultimately cost Ken his life. He passed away on January 25, 2023 at the age of fifty-seven. He is gone far too soon and dearly missed and still cherished by his wife, family and friends.
