Story

DONALD HARMER - TOWNSHIP OF BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM FIRE DEPARTMENT, ON

Don died from a work-related illness on November 2, 2023.  He joined the fire service in 1957.

Don was a proud member of Drumbo Fire Station and served his community for over 61 years as an active volunteer firefighter.  Don was known for his dedication to the fire service and community and was extremely proud to serve alongside his father, uncle, cousin, brother, son and daughter over his remarkable career.

As the longest serving member of the Blandford-Blenheim Fire Department, Don was always there to share stories of calls and always there to remind you to keep your head up and never turn your back on the highway.

Don’s spare time was spent at the ball park or arena or sitting in a tree stand with his grandkids or traveling the world with his wife, friends and family.

Don was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015, underwent surgery, and returned to active firefighting duties.  He retired from the fire service in 2017.  In 2023, he was diagnosed with metastatic recurrence in his brain and passed away a few months later.

Don’s legacy will live on in his family, community and the fire service.
