Fort Erie Fire Department, ON

Fire Chief Winston Woehl died from a work-related illness on January 10, 2022.  He joined the fire service in 1974.

Family Memories

Winston was a proud member of the Fort Erie Fire Department for over 40 years where he served as Fire Chief for 10 years, as well as holding all other officer ranks.  He was a mentor who provided countless hours of training for his fellow firefighters.

He was a member of the East Bertie Auxiliary Volunteer Fire Association where he spent years volunteering in various roles including President, Vice-President, Director and Treasurer.

Winston was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served a number years on their council.  He also served as Chairman of the Board for the Fort Erie Lions Senior Centre.

He was a dedicated man to his family, friends, and community; he was a mentor to many and has been deeply missed by all of the people whose lives he touched.

Winston was a cherished husband of 53 years to Gail, loving father to Doug (Rayanne) and Judy (Dave), and adored grandfather to Jamie, Aaron and MacKenzie.
