George Chyzy

George Chyzy started his career on the volunteer fire department in Arborg Manitoba in 1974 at the age of 18. George’s love for the fire service started when he was in high school, he was allowed to leave class to go on calls. George married Judy in 1978. He became chief in 1985. He was very proud to have his sons Curtis and Anthony serve on the department. George’s accolades include being a member of the North Interlake Mutual Aid District, Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs and the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs.  He got his CFO status in 2007.

George’s took all the training courses that were available at the Manitoba Emergency Services College and went to Arnprior for some training. When George talked about training he had a saying   “if you stop training you’re already falling behind.” Being a northern rural department, George strived to have his department as well trained and well outfitted as possible, George also worked a full-time job as well as being a volunteer in the fire department, He started working at the family Chrysler dealership, Then going on to bigger and better with Fort Garry Fire Trucks, and lastly at Correctional Service of Canada. George’s knowledge and wisdom will be missed by his family, Judy sons Curtis, Anthony grandkids Cairi Cooper and  Carver.
