Story

Captain Wells Pehlemann – or commonly known as Wellsy by his fellow firefighters; was a proud and active member of the north York Fire Department from January 1954 until his retirement in September of 1990. Wellsy thoroughly enjoyed a plethora of activities in his life, ranging from his times ranching in Montana as a western cowboy, or fishing at his family cottage with his grandchildren.

He was full of life, and always led a helping hand to whoever asked. Wells was a man of many talents, who more importantly took up a second career in agriculture, as well as having a keen interest in carpentry. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren excel in their sports endeavors. Whether it was cheering from the sidelines, coaching from the bleachers, or celebrating victories together, he was always present, beaming with pride at their achievements.

Wells passed away peacefully in October 2008 from a work-related illness from his 36-year career in the fire service. He was cherished by his son (Mark) and grandchildren and is sorely missed.
