Story

VERNON ROY APLIN

Roy Aplin was a gentleman and a professional.  He thoroughly enjoyed his 30 years on the former Etobicoke Fire Department (now Toronto Fire Services).  He was always neat and immaculately dressed right down to his shoes, that were polished to US Marine standard.  He also worked in the same way - firm, happy and always respectful.  He loved his career and took great pride in it.  He started in 1960 on the back of a ladder truck, after working as a toolmaker for 10 years.  Roy retired as a District Chief.  Roy was the Treasurer of Local 1137 for a few years and was also a huge advocate of Firefighter safety and served on their Health and Safety Committee.

Roy loved his family and all family functions.  He was married to Vera (whom he knew from Grade 7,) for nearly 60 years.  He was a proud father and grandfather and loved his son Glenn (Michele), and daughter Dianne (Rob), and their respective families.

Roy passed away from cancer in 2011.
