Story

Murray Evaschuk or “Gronk” as he was affectionately known by his colleagues was a very proud member of the Toronto Fire Department for 32 years and absolutely loved his job. He quickly advanced through the ranks to become a Captain, Chief and then finally a District Chief.

After retiring Murray and his wife Margaret moved to Adams Lake, BC where they enjoyed travelling the world and hosting friends and family at their lake house.  Murray loved to fish and could often be found out on the water catching dinner. He was also very active in the Astronomy and Naturalists Clubs in Kamloops and enjoyed teaching all those who would listen to him talk about black holes or how many light years away it is to various planets and galaxies. His love for microbiology was unsurpassed and he acquired a collection of microscopes that he took great pleasure in showing anyone interested microorganisms that he collected from nature.

His quirky ways and storytelling abilities will always be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Murray passed away from a work-related illness on March 21, 2023 with his family by his side.

Murray was extremely proud of his family and will be sadly missed by his son Brad, daughter Dana, Son in Law Rick, grandchildren; Jack, Harlee, Jasper, Merrill and Koda. Murray was predeceased by his wife of 55 years only 8 months prior to his passing.
