Jim was pre-deceased by his father John Speers, Mother Mildred Taylor and stepmother Kathy Speers. Jim was raised in Erin, ON, where he joined the Erin Fire Department at the age of 16 and rose through the ranks to eventually become Chief.
“Papa Jim” was known throughout the community as a helper to anyone in need. He plowed driveways, gave rides, fixed cars, fed hungry people and checked in on elderly community members. He served on the executive of the Bragg Creek Snowbirds 50+ group, where he took great joy in organizing snooker tournaments. He was a fixture at the local gas station every morning where he would have a coffee, do a crossword puzzle and “hold court” with locals stopping by to chat. He will be dearly missed, after touching so many lives.
