Story

Donald MacFarlane was a proud 3rd generation Volunteer Firefighter with the City of Moncton.  Don was Past President of the MVFD, he was Captain of #4 Hose Company for many years before retiring with 32 years of service.     

Don was recognized by the City of Moncton, as well as the Federal Government, for his bravery in alerting five sleeping residents in a burning house and getting them to safety in 1974.   He also was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for his bravery. 

Don was a Past Master in the Masonic Lodge.  He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1975, being insulin dependent for 48 years.  As well, he had open heart surgery in 2005, he had part of one lung removed due to cancer in 2014, then he was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2020, which was listed as the cause of his death.
