Frank Kenkel had a long firefighting career which began in 1964 when he became a volunteer firefighter in the town of Hespeler, ON. In 1973 Hespeler amalgamated with the neighboring towns of Galt and Preston to form the City of Cambridge. Frank then applied and was accepted into the role of a full-time firefighter in his newly formed city.
He rose to the rank of Captain and was also the Fire Prevention Officer. He was the Acting Platoon Chief when he retired in November of 1993. Frank passed away in April 2008 due to cancer caused by workplace exposure leaving behind a wife, seven children, 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
