Paul S. Ritchie, Ajax Fire & Emergency Services 35 Years of Service, Platoon Chief – Retired
Paul started his career with Ajax Fire & Emergency Services as a volunteer Firefighter in June 1984, he became full time in February 1986, moving up through the ranks even having a stint as Deputy Chief. Paul loved being a fire fighter, he would participate in many aspects of the Fire Service - Boot drives; Car washes (raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy), participating in Ajax Professional Fire Fighter hockey team and as a member of the Ajax Fire Combat challenge team for many years. Paul’s motto while at work was ‘Safety First’ and he ensured that all fire fighters on his crew returned home safely to their families.
Paul’s battle with Pancreatic Cancer was swift but his life will not go in vain, as he requested prior to his passing that a message to all fire fighters be shared; know the risks of fire fighting, take time to off gas, wash your gear, etc., before returning to shift, he said, Fire Fighting is an inherently dangerous job, take time to take care of yourselves and each other.
Paul enjoyed life to the fullest, with his family, loving his two sons Jordan & Tyler, taking many trips together, in his five years of retirement Paul and his wife Patti, traveled in their 5th wheel camping and exploring the country, spending winters in Yuma, Arizona with many friends.
