Story

Gerald’s (Jerry) Firefighting career began in 1961 with the Department of Transportation (DOT) Fire Service at CFB Wainwright, AB. In 1961 he, along with his wife Dorothy, and young son, transferred to Whitehorse, YT. Shortly after the arrival of their second son in 1962, they returned to Alberta and Jerry continued working as a firefighter at CFB Griesbach in Edmonton. His third son was born in 1970 and with the closure of the base in the early 1970’s, Jerry continued with the DOT Fire Service and transferred to the Edmonton International Airport where he remained until 1972. Jerry joined the City of Edmonton Fire Department in 1972 where he remained until his retirement in 1994 after a 33-year firefighting career.
